On April 7, the 1,000 MW photovoltaic project of the Northern Laos Connectivity Clean Energy Base (Phase I), in which China Railway No.2 Group under China Railway Group Limited participated in construction, was successfully connected to the grid and put into operation.

The project serves as a supporting power source for China–Laos power connectivity and is also Laos’ first large-scale mountainous photovoltaic project. Located in Oudomxay Province, approximately 38 kilometers from the Mohan Port on the Chinese border, the Phase I project has a planned installed capacity of 1,000 MW. China Railway No.2 Group undertook the construction of a 300 MW section, including the installation and commissioning of photovoltaic modules across 64 arrays, as well as associated road works.

Upon commissioning, the project is expected to generate approximately 1.65 billion kWh of electricity annually, equivalent to saving about 500,000 tonnes of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1.3 million tonnes each year.
